As noted by Udo-Imeh, et al (2015) the definition for personality by Gangajail (2009: 97) is very acknowledging as it states, “personality is something which is difficult to explain in one sentence. It is very vast and dynamic….” In the process of understanding the term personality, there are innumerable theories developed by many scholars. The initiations led by psychodynamic theory derived that the development of the human personality is the caused by determined interaction between the unconscious and instinctual feelings or forces in the person. To this approach, Freud added the advanced psychoanalytic theory that related the instinctual drives of a person with his/her early experiences of childhood. To this structure the Neo-Freudian theories accepted the tripartite personality structure and declared that personality is about the relevance of the unconscious instinct in a child that get triggered by defensive mechanism and anxieties as faced in the early phase of life.

The development of trait theory for the understanding of personality, focused mainly over the quantitative assessment of the human traits. Traits get noted as pre-dispositional mode of attribution that remains stable on occasional terms. However, under diversified situations there is every possibility that the personality of the individual will act differently.

The exploration of behavioural theory referred the personality as a result of interaction initiated between individual factors as well as the influences of the environment on the particular individual. This school of thought rejects the belief that mental state is the root to a personality. It rather remains concerned with measureable and observable external incidents in the making of a personality. The humanistic theory on understanding personality considers human as a good entity and at large holds personality responsible for the actions as led by the individual. This is a theoretical approach that amalgamates cognitive and the social learning as acquired by an individual.
