Mixed Martial Arts or MMA is a new combat sport emerging in the world as in India. This sport is a combination of all hand to hand combat and martial arts and was found as an answer to the question-Which Martial Art is the best?. But in the recent decades it has emerged into a sport of is own. It involves kicks, punches,takedowns and ground n pound along with cage/ring control. A regulated bout generally takes place in a ring or a cage. The sport has also been made famous by Bollywood movies like Sultan and Brothers. As if one Martial Art was not dangerous enough this is the mixture of several disciplines as a result of which fighter safety and event regulation is of the utmost requirement!

Now then talking of regulation and safety this brings me to BOOM MMA. It is currently the leading MMA organization in East India and is based in Kolkata . The event is organised by a MMA Training camp known as Taponomics. There are mainly 2 individuals behind this promotion-Ratul Mukherjee , the president of BOOM MMA and Noor Md. Bhutia the CEO of Taponomics. Sadly I have rarely seen an Organization that ignores fighter safety and regulation quite like Taponomics MMA . There is not a single certified doctor on the premises ,which is a number 1 must for such a dangerous sport! None of their fighters are under a contract or sign any official form of document before entering a fight as they do not provide one. 80% of the fighters that fight in BOOM belong to Taponomics and only they are paid for fighting in a proffesional fighting organization! Currently there is a champion in Boom whose name is Anastius M Ryondongsgi who till recently did not knew that boom paid fighters for fighting. On calculating he found out they owed him at least 1lacs+ in payment. None of their refrees are licensed! Fighters dont get proper treatment/acccomodation . Many of their fighters have Criminal background! There is no medical checkup prior to event. Fighters drink and smoke weed before a fight! The organization that sanctions Taponomics is CSA-Combat Sports Association that has no International Federation/Regulatory Body. The CEO Mr. Noor Md. Bhutia had been arrested for terrorist allegations and the president Mr.Ratul Mukherjee is a well known fraud in the MMA market! And these are only the tip of the iceberg! How do i know all this ? My son Raktim Singha fought at Shyaptoh MMA an affiliation of Boom in Gangtok,Sikkim . He is a 2 time National Kickboxing Champion out of the Kickboxing Federation of India. As he was a minor at 17+ age we repeatedly asked them to provide us with an official document that required our sign as guardians to my son. But they never provided it! During the fight in an accident my son dislocated his left elbow in such a way he tore a few ligaments and muscle in his elbow joint. There was also some nerve and artery damage that caused heart palpitations. According to the doctor we appointed in Kolkata if my son fainted he could have slipped into a coma! But luckily he survived. Also due to lack of Proper medical attention in Sikkim and absence of a doctor on the spot, the injury got worse- all the ligaments in his left elbow were torn. The surgery took an approx of 2.5 lacs which i had to pay for all by myself. Being a pro MMA organization we asked Boom for help. As usual they refused and described my son as not upto the mark to fight! Tell me if he was not good enough why was he their main event? and why were they promoting my son by making posters and in magazines? Also a pro MMA organization is responsible for all fighter’s medical payments! Also there was illegal betting on the spot of upto 12 lacs in my sons bout. They were also blacking tickets on the day of event and i had to pay to watch my own son fight! Sadly my son is not the first victim of this organization! Please carefully have a look at all these links! And I urge you to please take the required steps necessary. In my opinion such a fraud organization should not be allowed to exist and immediately be shut down just for the sake of all fighters . No other fighters should be victims of this fraud Organization!

Sadly there are many such fraud promotions that exist in India that use the hunger of new and upcoming fighters to put money in their own pockets ignoring the fighter totally. There should be strict regulation of Combat Sports in General in India if we want the sports to develop here and put our athletes on the high rankings in the international arena. Apart from boxing and wrestling other sports like MMA should also be looked after! For example Australia has the Combat Sports Act regarding the strict regulation of Combat Sports in Australia. USA has the NSAC-Nevada State Athletic Comission which is Government owned and is the sanctioning body of the Ultimate Fighting Championship which is currently the no.1 MMA Promotion in the world. The NSAC also looks for cases regarding athletes like fouls,doping etc. We also need such commissions and an insurance policy for all fighters run by the government in case of medical emergency,as most of our fighters come from poor or modest family backgrounds.
